Art Club

Art club is an after school club where students can choose to work in plaster, clay, paint, T-shirt design and more! Look what was happening this week!

5th Grade Animal Sculpture

5th graders are creating a 3D sculpture of their animal mash-ups out of clay. This project is a unique opportunity and challenge to explore very different forms of creating art using one image.

Sixth graders transferred their fable images onto their tiles.  From there is the magic of carving into the underglaze clay to reveal the white clay body.  All of the hard work with composition, pattern and carved areas paid off.  Enjoy!

Sgraffito Fable Tiles

Sixth grade artists inspired me with their fable writings and sketches.  Since the Artist’s studio workshop at the beginning of the year where we focused on form, proportion and composition they have grown and developed as artists.  Check out these sketches, can’t wait to get to the tiles!

5th Grade Menagerie

Fifth Graders are sculpting their animal mashups in clay today!  

 Going from two dimensional art to 3D art creates new challenges.  This is a great exercise for students to work with the same subject in a different medium, or material.  These pieces will be fired in the kiln when bone dry.

Expressive Pinch Pots

Grade 7 – 7th Graders start their portraits in clay with a simple pinch pot.  After choosing a feeling they manipulate eyebrows, eyes and other facial features as well as adding props to create expression.

Grade 8 Coil Pots

Grade 8 – I’m so happy to start my Galvin blog with eight grade coil pots!  Eight grader’s learning goal for this project was to have the coils change direction two or more times.   With glazing, they worked on craftsmanship by using two generous coats of underglaze and two coats of gloss glaze.
